During the world cup in Germany human rights organizations predicted that 40,000 women (many of them under age of 18 years old) would be trafficked into the country to keep up with the demand for prostitutes. The number of trafficked women into South Africa last year during the World Cup was also predicted to be 40,000. Although no one can really confirm exact numbers, this shows a terrifying tendency!!!
How many women and children will be trafficked to Brazil during the World Cup of 2014 and the Olympics of 2016?? For a big part these numbers will depend on our commitment as a church and society at large.
So in Belo Horizonte, one of the biggest cities of Brazil, we are having a very significant event coming up from September 29 till October 5, 2011. We are taking the occasion of the 25th anniversary of our YWAM base in Belo Horizonte, to promote a congress Stop Human Trafficking and a Backyard Academy (Zero tolerance on human trafficking) in partnership with David Batstone and the team from NotforSale. So come to Belo and be trained in recognizing, exposing and intervening in situations of trafficking of people.
